Whats the Difference - Zetec 1800 and 2 Litre
BigDawgV8 - 11/1/11 at 06:56 PM

Hi All,

I'm having serious trouble finding a 2 litre Black-top engine in any local scrappies around here.
They all have a few 1800 Black-tops in stock for little money.

I really, really want a 2 litre but are the 1800's so bad?????

I might also consider a Vauxhall 2 litre Ecotec. Does anyone know how these compare size-wise to the Zetec?

Advice please.

Thanks in advance.

Martin

Nothing wrong with the 1.8 its just a few bhp down on the 2.0 if you fit the 2.0 cams. Lower on torque.

about 10 to 15bhp if you fit 2 litre cams, still have the same top end slightly slower getting there if its initial acceleration then change the diff ratios and wheel sizes. I run a 1.8 and am more than happy with the performance

what about a bmw 318IS, 1.9 140bhp as standard with lots of tuning parts about. cheap to buy and cheap gearbox's etc.

My pal had two westy's a 1.8 with 2 litre cams and a 2.0 both similar spec running jenvy's and mbe sparks.
I personally thought the 1.8 was a nicer drive, seemed much crisper and eager to rev.
maybe just down to set up, but both had been on Dennis Vaseys rolling road, so who knows.
The 1.8 even sounded nicer.

I agree with Wadders that the 1.8 is a sweeter engine. Ive had both and there's not much difference. If I had to replace my 2.0 I'd be happy with a 1.8 with 2.0 cams.

I run a 1.8 with 136 cams, revs like a good un

I had a 1.8 and changed to a 2 litre, main difference is the extra torque helps with general driving but when driven fast the 1.8 does rev better and maybe feels quicker, but I think the 2 litre is actually quicker and is better at the top end.I would be happy to replace it with a 1.8 if I had too.

never had a 2.0 to try, but the 1.8 is quite nippy even with 1100kg of old focus to lug around with it

Thanks for all the replies. Much appreciated!

I will continue my search for a while longer but at least now I have another option.

Also dont be tempted to get a silver top, they can have problems with cam followers and are not a straight swap for a blacktop engine as the alternator mounts and water pump are different as well as the sump.
