How easy to change Diff Flange
Bumble - 18/2/11 at 04:13 PM

Hi all,
How easy is it to change the diff flange on an English axle? Providing that's all that's done is there any special required in terms of re-setting it once swapped over?
Thanks,
Matt

You can in theory count the turns to undo it then do it back up by the same. Any more or less will alter the pre load on the pinion.

I did mine by counting the number of turns, also marked the nut and end of thread and have had no problems.I did measure both flange thicknesses to make sure it would be the same.

How does this theory take into account any tolerance on the width of the splined part of the drive flange?

It does not, however when I did mine I measured both flanges and found them to be within 2 thou of each other.
