Cooling Question!
JC - 22/2/11 at 09:58 PM

Hi all!

I am using a Zetec SE engine. On the fiesta, there are 2 thin pipes and 1 thick pipe that go into the expansion tank. I presume that the thin ones are breathers - one comes from the cylinder head and one comes from the top of the radiator. On the Fiesta, they went into the top of the expansion tank via separate connections - presumably because they come from opposite sides of the engine!!!!! The expansion tank that I am using only has 1 inlet for narrow pipes. My question (finally!!) is 'Can I join the 2 narrow pipes with a T piece and route them into the same inlet on the expansion tank?'.

Thanks!!!!

JC

yes, is the easy answer. not sure what the more complicated answer is, but yes.

i guess the reason for two seperate might be in case theres difference in pressure stopping one from clearing properly at the T? or are the pipes 2 different sizes? but it should be fine

I like easy answers! I'm sure a complicated solution would involve non-return valves or something! Thanks for the quick answer!

I run the same engine, and me and a few others struggle with the cooling

I am redoing mine in the next few weeks, om not mid engined though

"struggle"? As in there is not enough cooling or you are like me and have to ask simple questions?

wonder if the only reason they have 2 connectors on the tank is because its cheaper (by like 3p or so) to have them moulded into the tank, rather than a seperate T?

If a T piece could cause pressure to equalise in the pipes and not in the expanding tank use a Y piece.
B&Q have plant feeder plastic tube connectors of this style in different bores

Shouldn't be any problem connecting them together, but as said a Y piece would be better than a T. Having said that, I have a T piece in my system (for the same reason) and it's been fine for 3 years.

struggle with keeping the thing cool

T piece with the middle leg of the tee going to the tank is fine a lot of production cars use just that setup.
