Hi all,
I am nearing the point of first start-up of my ZX12r engine (yay !). Now, i know that its not run for nearly 2 years (its a 2001 year A1 engine), and
hasn't been turned over for a year either.
Before i apply power and try and start the thing, and beyond new oil/ coolant, is there anything thats 'good pratice' to do beforehand ?.
Say, is it worth giving each cylinder a spray of WD40 first ?
Cheers

old fashioned way......
bit of redex (or similar ) doen the bores and leave, ideally overnight, but an hour is probably ample. Spin the motor with plugs out, check you are
getting oil pressure, and a compression test is a smart move. If all well, plugs in, and fire up. Then thoroughly abuse
If you have no oil pressure while turning over with no plugs, crack open the oil filter while turning it over until oil pumps out, then nip it back up. Quite often you get an airlock when doing a full oil and filter change on a bike engine with oil cooler.
Thanks both - never would of thought of using radex

I took the cam cover off mine and turned the engine over until the oil lubed the cams, got 12psi pressure
personally i just crank the engine over with the fuel pump off for a while to get the oil round then start it.
