Confused about diff ratios
tompat3463 - 24/3/11 at 08:50 PM

Hi guys. Im 24 and picked up an ind-blade last weekend.

I was given a spare diff with the sale. Apparently the car is fitted with a 3.9 sierra open diff and a spare 3.6 diff was included.

Been driving the car this week and the car seems way to low geared for me. top speed seems like about 90..

Yeah sure u can move ur head whilst accelerationg to 60mph

is the 3.6 a slower accelleration or faster ??

PS. its running a 97 blade with standard gear box I pressume !!

Thanks in advance

with a 3.62 it will have a top speed of 115-120mph and slightly less acceleration (it'll still be quick)
a 3.62 LSD will get the the power down on the road and out of bends.

3.14 is what BEC builders are after! but good luck finding one now...

a lot of bmws have 3.19 (i think) but the diff is a bit heavier. still wonder why more arent being used though...

I think (i my opinion) a 3.14 diff would be wrong fora blade engine, it would need loads of revs to get it off the line otherwise it would bog down.
Not at all suitable slow speed driving, i.e in traffic and towns.
I've tried them both.

3.6 gives me reasonable pulling away and well enough top end to get me banned. 3.9 is great for traffic light drag racing. 3.1 is great for top end but as said not very user friendly on the clutch.
