spark plugs

Has any one got any idea what spark plugs to use in a Zetec Turbo engine. I am currently running standard NGK plugs but yesterday whilst on rolling road the plugs melted. We were running about 1 bar of boost and had achieved 260bhp when we had to stop due to plugs. There was more to come from the engine but could not contine due to plugs. So need to replace plugs with colder running plugs, but am not aware of any different plugs for Zetec engine.

Thanks

surely its the combustion / egt that is causing the plugs to melt ?

Ermm.. you didn't mention what # your 'melted' NGK's were? Whatever.. you need colder ones (larger number) as a start
DynoJet?? That's usually How? one 'gets' 260 hp on a measly 1 bar boost.
There are issues in your setup it seems.

My saab started life on bpr6 plugs and 200bhp , I briefly ran it at 280bhp with the 6s then swapped to its current bpr8s.

But never had any issues with the extra boost, egt heat etc on the 6s. When removed they were clean and looked fine. And it ran ok with a few more knocks than I would of preferred, now on the 8s I dont get many.

Isnt the higher number of the plug the cooler it runs ? Ive used various setups in my car , some were lazy tunes with easy going boost, while others lagged a bit then went absolutely mental , but Ive never got near as far as I know to melting plugs.

My alarm bells would be ringing now...

go easy

Never seen plugs melt, must have been going some! Just be wary when going colder that idling becomes somewhat more sensitive to tune - running rich will found the plugs pretty much instantly.

Think the Sierra Cosworth Turbo uses Grade 8's iirc

Dave Walker was doing the setup using an emerald ECU so I wouldnt question the setup
