Do I really need ARP bolts?
Nitrogeno25 - 17/4/11 at 03:36 PM

I plan to use a lightened raceline flywheel in my duratec installation (looking for 170-180bhp). I have a set of new stock flywheel bolts I bought from Burton, but I've been advise to use ARP bolts.

Do I really need to go for the ARP bolts (40-50 for a set)?

Thank you!

They are much better. Higher torque settings and stop the end caps from moving around due to better shoulders.

My blacktop has been over 8k a couple of times on standard bolts and still works!

they've got their benefits, but do you really NEED them? no of course not. but putting them in should give you higher rev limit

Only if the flywheel bolts are what limit the revs on a stock engine. And I doubt they do.

End caps on a flywheel??

Would have thought that with a lighter flywheel and a much lighter car than the engine was originally fitted to the flywheel bolts would be less stressed even at higher RPM BUT is it worth the risk ???

We went for new standard flywheel bolts on ours. As has been said light car etc means they should be well within their safety factors.

i have ARP's on big end and flywheel, more for peace of mind than anything else.

Note, if you go for the standard ones they need to be shortened.
