What paint do people use to do there heads and block?

I'm going to do mine after it's back from machine shop and want to make sure I get it right

Cam Cover - Plastikote Super enamel (Sprayed)

Head - Hammerite Silver (Sprayed)

Block - Hammerite Blue (Painted)

Bellhousing - Hammerite Silver (Sprayed)

sorry to hijack, but it might be helpful to you ...

what happens if you paint engine paint on the block without wire brushing it first?

my engine's been rebuilt, all ready to run (sort of) and i don't want to have to strip it to wire brush it and have bits get inside
is it quite happy being painted over rust? not flaky, but the sort of fine powdery rust

I used this its on clearance in most colours other than red.

Its an epoxy style paint where you add the hardner. Its ample for a block. Its still as good as the day I put it on, five years on.

Aslong as there's no flaking paint/Rust or oil on the surface it'll be ok
I thin the first coat on the block and then apply another couple of coats before the previous one is completely dry
Done a few now and never had a problem (Guy Croft uses Hammerite on his blocks)

Use something to remove the rust, a mild acid or even wonder wheels should be good. Rinse and then paint. That epoxy paint looks good not a fan of hammerite though.
