After a few ideas to mind

I do have a modified CVH sump, but believe to fit that I have to remove the wind-age tray at the bottom of the engine. Cut down the cap threads and still bash hell out of the sump to fit?

The sump I have with it is the cast ally one as pic's and was told not original.



I can chop the bottom off this to reduce the height but I have no TIG welding facilities to stick a flat plate on, can anyone offer to do this for me and how would I get the drain plug back?

Also how much oil would I loose in capacity and is it an issue?

See if anyone else has a modified sump for sale?

I did one of them successfully, you need to degrease it very thoroughly with thinners and finish with washing up liquid and boiling water and grind back the edges of the casting next to the weld to ensure a good weld with no pinholes.If you carefully cut out the filler plug boss it can be welded back in place when the bottom is fitted.I lost about .75 of a liter oil capacity but never had a problem with it as the oil gets changed at a lower mileage on these cars and zetecs like the oil to be hot .

I have milled the bottom off mine. to get same height or depth as Type 9 box and will look around for a local Tig welder that will do the job.



Next bit will be to trim the pick-up pipe. I noticed it is larger diameter tube then the CVH so to be safe will not use the pipe from that.

True they do, also how to gain some oil capacity back, was wondering about sticking an oil cooler on to get some more oil in there.

What thickness plate 1.5 or 2mm ali sheet?

I used a bit of 4mm as it was available and about the same thickness as the sides of the sump, you dont want to use less than 3mm really considering that it may get the occasional knock from speed bumps and road debris.

Fair point on the thickness, I will look around tomorrow for some and cut the shapes I need.

cant help with zetec sump but if you end up not using your cvh sump and pick up, i would be interested in it for my cvh.
been looking for shortened/modified one
