X/flow oil pump question
steve m - 3/7/11 at 12:01 AM

I have from an old performance engine in my garage a x/flow high pressure oil pump

The said engine destroyed the top end due to valve failure, but the engine was only running for seconds after that.

Can the pump be dismantled enough to clean out any possible swarf /bits ? so that it can go on my present x/flow ?

obviousley a new filter would be added

Worth a try but if in doubt don't use it

Strip it down, if the guts show no signs of scarring then it should be fine.

They get screwed when you get a bearing failure, dropping a valve leaves chunks not dust, just be sure that the failure was not caused by lack of oil !!!

Most of the pump is quite crude and probably very easy to clean. The only bit that would concern me is the oil pressure relief valve that uses a super-shiny piston in, presumably, a super-shiny bore. You'd probably have to pull this piston out to be 100% sure that it's clean - and it's held in with a jam-fit clip, IIRC.
