I am not the best welder but have managed to fabricate another down pipe from the manifold to a quieter silencer, it now needs lots of polishing, last stage is to wrap the under bonnet section to reduce the heat in there.

I think I used the steel ties as used on CV joints last time and ended up slicing my fingers to bits, anyone got a better idea?

Second question is just for advice. My air filter sticks out of the bonnet and is just left open all around, would it be better to stick a scoop on it to reduce induction noise and give better airflow to the carb when doing a reasonable speed? Not sure if it is affected or not just tend to think of blowing across a bottle and the fact you can cause a vacuum in the bottle effect.

Cars been off the road for a week or so whilst I did the exhaust, just about to finish soon.

I will not be using heat wrap again, and i also belive that it does not reduce noise, but keep it all inside untill it exits the exhaust, so in effect the exhaust is louder

My recentley revamped exhaust setup is most definatly quiter with the exhaust wrap off (and in the bin)

I like the stainless mig wire idea, had not thought of that.

I will not be wrapping the manifold just the down pipe. The manifold is a cast RS turbo one and would be very hard to do, but need to keep heat away from the battery etc.

as above I would recommend a fabricated heatshield rather than wrap, that might be better and easier.
