Prop Shaft shortening.
karlak - 24/7/11 at 08:12 AM

It looks like I may be able to shorten the prop shaft by a couple of inches or so as part fo installing the Duratec. The Pinto always looked like it was quite a long way "forward" in the car.

Is it really worth doing this? I guess any weight moving towards the centre of the car has to be an advantage. I have a company fairly local who will both shorten and balance the prop. I suppose a balance is not a bad thing to do anyway.

I realise the Gearstick will move back also, but that is good, as it was always a bit too far away. Will I have any other issues in doing this/

Always best to try get the engine as far back as possible. Better weight distribution.

If you do shorten the prop make sure you get it balanced.

if you do move it back, make sure you dont get too close to the handbrake as i find my handbrake is now in the way

My Luego has a shortened Sierra handbrake lever which gives plenty of clearance even when used with a remote gearlever extension .

I cut and shut mine when I did it but it was a while ago and I can't remember exactly how I did it but it only took an hour or so . Fiesta item may be usable and may be a bit shorter?
