I,m thinking of replacing my 1.8 zetec silvertop with a 2 ltr zetec during the winter. Will it be a straight swap or will I need to replace/change
anything? I have twin 40 webers and plan to fit a megajolt with the 2 ltr engine.
Should I keep the 1.8 flywheel as its lighter?
Cheers
I did exactly the same swap last year and yes it's a straight swap but you might need your carbs tweaking
Yes, keep the flywheel
Edit mine was a 1.8 Blacktop, not sure about Silvertops

Silvertop to silvertop should be fine, but silvertop to blacktop will require a few odd changes (sump I think, water pipe work etc) but nothing that should put you off.
I believe the water pump on the 2.0 turns the opposite way from the 1.8.
fit the water pump from an escort engined silvertop they do run the opposite way due to the serpentine belt arrangement . Fly wheel is significantly lighter so fit that. You may need to rejet the webbers the 1.8 jets will be slightly smaller, you can run megajolt with no problems I think the timming is the same. obviously fit you 1.8 sump and oil pick up etc. alternatively fit the 2 litre cams you should be able to get within 10bhp of the 2 litre output with a cam swap and a good setting up session. Reportedly a 1.8 can give around 150 - 155 bhp with carbs , 2 litre cams decent manifold so do you really need an engine swap ??
Thanks to all for the replies. I did initially think of tweeking the 1.8 but thought that fitting a 2ltr would give more power in standard form. I'm not looking for anything more than 160BHP and thought by fitting a 2ltr i could gain that. At present the twin 40 webers are running rich and I cant get them to run any leaner without the idle getting very lumpy. Would it be worth just getting a set of 2ltr cams and a megajolt, set up properly could I expect 155BPH?
Engine mounts and alternator mount are also different.
