Recomendations for new noise friendly exhaust can ?
Tris - 13/8/11 at 06:23 PM

Hi all,

Ive got a ZX12 powered Spire GTR, and so far ive been running it mainly with the stock bike can which i got off ebay. Passed IVA fine, although it failed dismally yesterday at castle combe, registering 106db at 9,000 rpm !!!

Ive got another track day booked week thursday, so i am in the market for a nice (and big!) acousta-fil filled can that can bring the noise down.

Does anyone have any recommendations for where i can get one custom made ?. Already tried Paul Gooderham but he's too busy, going to also try andy bates on monday.

Cheers
Tris

factory one then it will be quiet.

My BEC failed due to engine/induction noise you may be better off concentrating in this area.

Noise does not like bends either, so if you can turn it a few times this will also help.

Yes, its the can. Its a straight baffled design, with no noise wadding at all.

Regards induction, ive done some work in this area already so there's little extra i could do.

Here's a few pic's showing how it currently is with lots of bends

Sounds like a horrible DB killer required then or a supertrap thing

I got a load of 3" tube off 3' Universal Removable Exhaust Db Killer Baffle | eBay on ebay, turned up very quickly and excellent quality

You know, that was the strange thing - i had already thought of that and had brought with me 2 different types of DB killers, both brought from ebay. One was almost the same as in your link, the other was a shorter example.

Amazing thing was that they both increased the noise level !!!. God knows why but it looks like a bigger and proper wadded can is the best way at the mo.

Maybe they just changed the tone

In that case all I can suggest is a third can strapped across the back maybe, or if its out the middle a Y piece with 2 small cans perhaps. For my car I,m in the process of taking the exhaust out the rear to get it as remote from the engine as possible...

I purchased a cheap db meter off ebay, its surprising accurate so I suggest you get something similar before commiting, my planned day at Goodwood ended up going around in the tow car as my BEC was banned I feel your pain, things are bound to get more stringent as well I recon.
