Probably should have kept this in Dave 1888s thread, but thought it was sufficiently different to warrant it's own little thread. Anyway - to the
point.
Locost Zetec Ignition
Having done a bit of reading, here is my take on the easiest and cheapest way to get sparks happening on a zetec - this is assuming you have already
bolted a set of webers or dellortos on and a suitable exhuast manifold.
1) Get a hold of an EDIS 4 module from the bulkhead of an early 90s Ford - this link shows the
pin out arrangement. Not hugely complicated.
Bear in mind that the EDIS on it's own will give you a rock steady ignition timing of 10 degress BTDC with nothing else - no advance or retard,
but enough to run your engine.
2) We now need a 'locost' ECU to plug into the EDIS and give advance retard.
To my mind, the only 'locost' solution is Mega Jolt Lite Junior
Available completely built and tested for 155 US dollars - inc delivery.
www.xe.com reckons that is £84 - wayyy cheaper than anything else.
Or buy the kit and build it yourself for 64 dollars - about 35 quid + a case.
Personally I reckon a built and tested unit for 84 quid is fantastic.
Is there a cheaper way to get a zetec up and running with 3D mapped ignition ?

I've just ordered the parts to make a MJLJ. Once I have all the bits I need I reckon it will have cost about £100.
£84 for a finished unit would be great but you're forgetting import duties.
The MJLJ is designed to use a MAP sensor which won't work if you're running twin Webers on individual manifold runners as you don't
have a common vacuum take-off. To get round this and still provide 3D ignition I'm going to modify the MJLJ to use a TPS. If this works I may
well offer fully built units complete with 3D map for the Zetec.
To start with I'm going to try and convert an Emerald map. If anyone has any Emerald or Omex maps please email me a screen dump of the map
