Setting Ignition...
johnemms - 2/11/11 at 10:49 AM

Ok.. so ...

I disconect the vaccum advance and block off manifold conector
I use strobe to set ignition to TDC 0 degrees at 650rpm
I reconect vaccum and check with strobe
It reads 12 degrees - 800rpm
Mechanical advance seems to start about 1000rpm

Turn off engine - restart - no kick back - seems ok..

have I missed anything?

cheers

Surely you need some static advance not just running at tdc? ignore the fact the vacuum is giving you some when it is connected.

johnemms - 2/11/11 at 02:12 PM

Just a slight kick back on starting when hot..
starts and seems to tick over fine..
slight open of throttle - turn over - fires..

Strobe 650rpm - 0 degrees
connect vaccum - Strobe reads 12 degrees advance - 800rpm

I know what you mean - but if i set 12 degree static then conect the vaccum its way too much advance..

anyone else have any info?
cheers

Hello,

you would expect any engine to kick back at a static setting of tdc. what engine is it and has it been modifed?

Where is the vac signal coming from? off the manifold directly?

BaileyPerformance - 2/11/11 at 02:30 PM

Hello again!

Sounds like you have the vac connected to the inlet manifold, this is incorrect, it would normally be connected to the carb - on a drilling next to the throttle flap so the dizzy only sees vacuum at light throttle NOT at idle.

If you like call me 07967 222967 and i will explain what to do. Cheers Dale.

Cheers for the chat Dale..
All info taken on board.. vaccum now history..
Set static strobe at 12 degrees - runs fine - so far..
Will set maximum advance once i get a different strobe - not driving it yet ...

Just won a nice 'dial back' strobe on fleebay.. will be sorting the dizzy n timing out very soon !!! cheers Dale..
