In the continuing series of Zetec questions, I've found the cause of my seized engine, a bent con rod caused by hydraulic lock due to over
fuelling on #3!
So do I:
Source a new con rod / piston?
Source a set of 4 new con rods / pistons?
Buy a secondhand pre '95 1.8 silver top?
Buy a secondhand 2 ltr blacktop and hope the MOT man turns a blind eye?
Cheers
Chris

If its already OTR then swap the engine, tell DVLA what the new engine number is, job done.
No need to keep this stuff secret as it will catch you out in the end, to update the documents is free

If you're past SVA/IVA it doesn't matter what you fit so long as the DVLA and Insurance are informed.
Emissions levels don't change so MOT man will just pick up the numbers from the v5c or the computer.
Put a xflow in the hole !!
hahaha

Stu,
You on carbs of throttle bodies?
Steve,
Haha indeed ;-)
Ian,
I thought it was based on the engine in use, my V5 has the >3.5 levels and the current engine number, I thought that if I changed the engine to a
post '95 then I'd be liable for post '95 emissions, i.e >0.5, which I'll never pass on bike carbs, and don't want to shell
out on throttle bodies etc;
and
Mark,
No intention of not updated the DVLA, insurance etc more the point that I thought that a post '95 engine has tougher emissions standards.
Cheers
Chris
Interestingly there is a bloke on the bay selling a pair of pistons / con rods that would fit....
Emmissions will follow the car registration, not the engine so once through you can fit what you want, this is why some old engines are at a premium,
for BEC's an 893 blade as an example
That's good to know, cheers Mark!
don.t throw that block out. Someone will rebuild that engine to get through iva. It may end up being triggers broom but someone will use it.
yep pre 95 blocks have a value
My car was regsistered in 1993. Its on ithe 5th engine, started 1300 x-flow, now 2 litre Blacktop. Its still MOT's on visible smoke sice that is
what it was originally.
Have a nice 1994 2 litre silvertop under the bench ready for the next project, no cat, emmissions again, yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
