I've damaged my fuel pump doing an engine out clutch change and it's leaking, so this would be a good time to fit the Facet pump I bought years ago. Can you just take out the standard mechanical fuel pump and blank the outlet or do you lose the distributor or oil pump drive?
Just pop a blanking plate on. Available from fleabay and others.
You may need to put a pressure regulator on though, to keep the pressure down and ensure the float chamber valve is not swamped.

Well that was quick. Blanking plate bought. Thank-you
There is an operating rod down the hole behind the pump which would probably be better removed and saved rather than left rattling about in there. Use magnet to get it out.
Definetly worth fitting a fuel pressure regulator

I've got a blanking plate lying around somewhere, but mine's spent the last 12 years with the mechanical pump inlet and outlet simply connected together with a short length of hose - just to keep muck out in the first place and then never removed.
