Reverse Gear for BMW Bike Gearbox???
scootz - 17/2/12 at 10:52 PM

I understand that an internal reverse-gear can be added to the BMW bike gearboxes (separate units), but I'm struggling to find a company to do the biz.

From another forum...

... change the gear clusters and add an internal jack-gear. Essentially turning first gear into reverse with an electrical lockout on the shifting cam to keep from accidentally shifting from second (now first) directly into reverse...

This company n Germany are apparently the specialists, but I can't get a reply from them

Can anyone recommend a company on these shores that would be up for this kind of job?

Cheers!

No knowledge what so ever from personal experience but I would start on a BMW bike forum and ask if any sidecar guys have done it.

In a thread at http://www.suckindiesel.com/thingy/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=270 by oilburner » Sat Sep 08, 2007 8:59 am "It's unfortunate Wolfgang Kayser in Germany retired."

Possibly no-one took the company on.

Please let us know if you have any luck with this reverse gear project, I can think of some people who would be interested.

Neil

ETA

I just found an exchange box with reverse HERE Not exactly Locost though.

Most of them are using an electrical contraption to drive the sidecars wheel.

The gold Wing uses the starter mOtor. Have a look at how these work, it might be easy to modify the BMW to do the same.

I'd be looking for an 'in-the-box' solution or not at all as it's not a hugely important function to me.
