I am trying to remove the Clutch basket in my r1
Whats the best way to hold the drum still while i get some pressure on the 32mm nut in the centre
Thanks
Neil
this is a real pain as im sure you have found
I got one of the metal disks which sit between the clutch plates and put braces across and attached a handle this way the force was spread across all
the notches not damaging any of them
Be ware of e clutch basket. I snapped bits off mine. Luckilly I had a spare engine for salvaging parts. I think I welded something up in the end.
Use a rattle gun to shock it off. I dont like the braces either as the basket is quite fragile.

Yes air gun works, but if not have you tried putting it in gear, with the handbrake on.
If it's anything like the blackbird clutch, then all I did was bolt two of the clutch discs together to lock both halves of the basket together. Then put it in gear and put the handbrake on. That was enough to get mine on and off.
Well Just been to Machine Mart and got a cheap Impact gun.
So gona try it in gear with the handbrake on then fire up the gun,
thanks for the replies

Yes Got off with the new gun no problem.
Fitted the new basket, much less play on rotation. But still to much movement back and forth, so i think a new bearing is in order.
Thats a great link thanks
Where are the R1 experts?
I'm not, but I've got a feeling that a small, (mm's not microns) amount of forward backward play may be OK on there.
Might be worth getting this confirmeed before you splash out on a bearing unneccessarily
