My 1.6 sohc pinto stock cam lobs seem a little worn. i.e there is a slight lip at the ends if I run my finger along the tip of the lobe from front of
engine to back.
I measured a 0.4mm difference with my vernier calipers.
Is this cam worn out? Or can I run it for a few more years (at <2k miles/year road use).
My budget ran out ages ago so I can't afford a new cam.
I wouldn't have it in my engine. It will at the very least be noisy although the engine may well run after a fashion.
It may or may not last much longer - the case hardening will be getting very thin if it isn't already gone and once it is through the wear will
be rapid.
However the good news is you can run it till you can't stand the noise any more and the rest of the engine shouldn't really suffer as any
metal particles should be caught by the oil filter.
Hope that helps
Cheers

Worn Out...
A standard 2.0L cam is an upgrade for a 1.6 as it has more lift and duration.
Most people would give them away, so you should be able to pick one up.
