I drained the oil from my gsxr engine when I stripped the bike a couple of weeks ago. How will it be best to store the engine? It's going to be a
while before its in the car, even longer till its running. Should I fill it up with oil? Anything else I can do to protect it?
Cheers
Put oil back in. Bung up exhaust and inlet ports to avoid dropping stuff into them. Then you might want to turn the engine over by every 6 months or so, but taking off the clutch cover and cranking it over using the large bolt running through the clutch.... Simples.
Do they sell engine storage spray in a rattle can over there? If so as said put the oil back in, drain the carbs of fuel, spray the storage oil into the spark plug holes and put the plugs back in and an oily rag in the exhaust and inlet ports. this is what we do with our marine and other engines as they go to sleep for six months every year. Boats, Motorcycles, and Snowmobiles.
I'd put fresh old in the sump, take the plugs out and put some oil in there too, then spray some light oil over it before wrapping it in clingfilm and put it away somewhere dry. Pays to operate the clutch lever very few months to stop it sticking, there a pest on bikes for sticking
