Flywheel dowels
J222jra - 6/5/13 at 06:34 PM

Guys I have a small query. My xflow flywheel only has two clutch locating pins fitted. I removed one from my old 1300flywheel but its a a smaller diameter.

I thought that all xflow engines would use the same dowels on the flywheel?

At this rate I will be ordering a new flywheel from RWD Motorsport or ATspeed racing.

Measure what size the dowel is, and buy some new ones, make some, or use roll pins (all inserted with Stud-Lok). A whole new flywheel sounds a bit excessive for the sake of a little pin.

Good plan.....

I think abit of DIY lightening had been done by the previous owners as well which is a little concerning.

Be careful with DIY lightened flywheels, Their pretty much in line with your feet when fitted and if it decides to 'let go' it won't be a pleasant experience.
Have seen one embed itself in a rolling road wall and a couple that have come loose due to being so far out of balance.
One of these knackered the end of the crank

Any recommendations for lightened flywheels I can trust?

I'm doing one of my own, using a milling mahine and rotary table. I plan to get it balanced to the crank when done, and to leave enough material to retain strength. I also considered an Ali flywheel with a steel insert, but again, this would be custom.

You can buy dowels from Burton Power
