Cleaning bike carb jets.

my BEC stalls as soon as I touch the throttle. Fuel pump appears to be working fine so it has been suggested to me to make sure the main jets in the
carb are clean.
I am just reading the the bike manual- could someone clarify this.... Can I simply remove the float chamber cover on the bottom of the carbs to access
the main jet or do I need to over haul the whole carb in order to clean these? I want to make this fiddly process as easy as possible so any help
would be greatly appreciated.

If you can get to the screws on the bowls when they are on the engine, then it might be easier to do it on the engine. So yes, if you take off the
bottom float bowl, you will have access to the jets to clean or remove the jets and clean them individually.

also run some silkolene pro FST in your fuel it cleans out the carb and stops carb icing

Do not separate the carbs, get them on the work bench and do them one at a time.
Remove the float and needle, the idle screw and jet, main jet and any thing else you can get off safely.
Buy Wynns Pro carb cleaner, very high pressure and will not dissolve the float
if you get any on rubber parts, let them dry naturally and they will
go back in shape. An air line and needle blow gun are handy.
It's important to balance the carbs and set the idle mixture ( I used a ColorTune)
I think your problem will be in the idle circuit, if it is a carb problem, the main jet starts to come into effect around 1/4 throttle.

The engine idles fine with the choke fully on. As soon as I merely touch the throttle the engine dies- any ideas?

I had problem with mine that wouldn't rev. Turned out it was the pilot jets that were blocked. Took them out and blew them through and ran
perfectly.

I know it's not the locost way but just take em to a decent local motorcycle garage and ask them to give them an ultrasonic clean. My r1 ran like
a bag of poo had them cleaned and ran sweet as a nut.
I think it cost me 30 quid and they came back gleaming.

If the carbs have been stood more than about 2 months, with even a trace of fuel in the bowls, the jets and drillings will be blocked,
this is a fact of life with bike carbs.
I messed around with mine for ages,until I did a proper job on the cleaning at the third attempt, now runs perfectly.
I couldn't find anyone local that did ultrasonic cleaning, but that is the way to go.

Problem solved!!! I poured some fuel directly into the carbs whilst turning the engine over and it roared into life!! So it definitely a fuelling
problem- Now all I need to do is clean out the carbs and the problem should be sorted for good. thanks for all the sound advice, this really is a
great forum.
