My stepsons 1.2 corsa twinport clutch is playing up. I've not been to see the car yet so looking for some suggestions.

Its a hydraulic clutch setup. the car wont go into gear with engine running, put car into gear and start and with clutch pedal on the floor the car will move so its not disengaging. My first thought was the clutch plate fingers, or should I be looking at the hydraulics?

If the pedal is floppy with no pressure then the chances are its the concentric slave cylinder
Check the reservoir level and see if its low
Check underneath where the gearbox and engine join and see if its wet there - youll be able to smell it if its brake fluid

pedal pressure is fine and no evidence of any leaks yet

the chances are its broken up then - usually springs in the drive plate
Bits get stuck between the flywheel and the clutch and stop it releasing

Worn fingers, cracked pressure plate or collapsed release bearing. My money would be on No3 but they all mean g/box off and new clutch.

Adi, any idea of hours a garage would charge in labour for a clutch and slave cylinder replacement?

3 1/2 to 4 depending how many coffees I've had. Not got auto-data on this computer to give the official time.
