I'm currently running ngk PTR5A-10 in my 2.0l blacktop zetec, I took them out this morning to inspect them and they where pretty black which
obviously could be over fueling but as the car is running more than standard would it be worth going one steop hotter?
Would be the next step up from the ones I'm using?
Also the white ceramic on 3 of the 4 had cracks in.

If the nose of the plug is cracking then the plugs are too hot (aka too soft) , a sooty plug is a definite sign of rich mixture.

The Zetec that I run is standard apart from R1 carbs fitted and although they run beautifully, I have a problem with the outer ceramic cracking from one end to the other. I never experience any misfiring.
