Hi
I carn't seem to find what bits I need to connect the 2.3 duratec ( from the galaxy ) to a mt75 out of a sierra 2.0 glsi
which flywheel clutch and pressure plate will the sierra thrust bearing work ???? this is driving me more mad
the different combinations possible appear to be endless but wich is correct

Doesnt the MT75 have an integral bellhousing which wont mate directly to a duratec?

mcerd1 - 25/6/14 at 10:58 AM

^^^ as above the duratec's won't with the MT75 boxes directly

just to check is this from the current model galaxy (2006 onwards) ?

if its the older model then its not actually a duratec engine.....

My last Westfield Duratec 2L had a MT75 box it also had a separate bell housing. I did not build the car but I believe the MT75 can be rehoused in a different casting. The bell housing I believe was a Westfield part. I believe the MT75 in a new casting may have been "Raceline" but not sure. The low profile sump was definitely "Raceline". Hope that gives you something to chew on!

Sounds expensive
I've heard rumours of these aftermarket MT75 cases, but never actually seen one...

standard MT75's come with integral bellhousings for either the old ford 4cly engines (not duratec) or the Cologne 2.8/2.9 V6's

The MT75 with removable casing is actually called an MTC75 and is a Mitchell Cotts gearbox -

If its a 2.3 form an ageing 1990's/early 2000's Galaxy the 2.3 is not a Duratec. Its simply the hateful chain drive DOHC engine from a Sierra that was enlarged to 2300cc instead of 2000cc.

Its a boat anchor and you will struggle to find any fitting or tuning parts.

Don't waste your time on this engine, get a proper Duratec but don't forget that the Zetec is a fine engine.

well I already have the box but not the engine what is the biggest cc or most powerfull engine that fits it ????

theprisioner - 25/6/14 at 03:49 PM

I vote Sigma with go faster bits and it is a very light engine (vvt technology from Ford) and it has a good box.

The Sigma is indeed an excellent engine and the box that comes with the 1.7 has probably the best ratios I have ever had in any road car I have owned. But that box is no good whatsoever in a front engine rear wheel drive car which is what the OP appears to be building.

assuming you have the 4 cylinder box:

in that case the crappy old 2.3 DOHC 16v (old galaxy / scorpio engine) is probably the biggest standard engine you'll find in this country - problem is its a big, old, heavy waste of space with practically nothing available off the shelf to make it go any better.... (the best ones were only 150ps)

the 2.0 zetec E engine is the next biggest one that's easy to get, mk1 focus version is about 130ps - but its easy to get more out of it (160 is easy to get)
also don't write off the 1.8 its cheaper, revs better and still makes almost the same power if you use the 2.0 spec cams

the obvious next step up is the ST170 (it says duratec, but its really still a zetec E) - but you'll need to deal with the VVT one way or another (see the old threads on this)

or there is the zetec SE's (sigma engines) - these aren't as powerful but are a bit lighter

right st170 engine bought and getting a type 9 what clutch flywheel combo is it will stick the mt on the bay next week you live and learn
