Type 9 Gearbox
Locost82 - 23/3/05 at 03:21 PM

Probably been covered, but I can't find it.

I want to fit a Type 9 'box to my x-flow. I've heard about long and short input shafts. Which do I need? Can they be changed?

Cheers

you can use either technically (with an appropriate bellhousing!), but in reality, just get the std, short input shaft one (from a 4 cylinder petrol pre 1990 sierra or a 4 cyl 5 spd capri)

you need a short/standard 4 cylinder engine origin type9. long nose boxes are from v6's and can be used, but you'd need a longer bellhousing or plate to match it up. long nose box has better ratios and is stronger though, but not required for a xflow.

Sorry to hijack locost82 but this may be beneficial.

Is there different bellhousings for type 9's. I have 2 gearboxes at the moment. both type 9's from Sierras but the starter motor lump on the bell housing is on opoosite sides. Does anyone know why?

doesn't the ally rs2000 bellhousing have bumps on both sides? or am i talking b*ll*x?

maybe from a diesel? don't know where the starter is on them..

Yes Ned, the Alloy RS 2000 has bumps either side

You will also need to modify the plate that goes between the bellhousing and engine if you use the x'flow one that is, to suite the new off set bolt holes in the starter appature , as for the clutch to use, you need an early 1600 sierra clutch
If your going to use an RS Alloy Bellhousing, you will also need to make a bracket to fit the clutch adjuster to
Hope this helps

Hillman Avenger clutch driven plate also works

I think the shim plate between the engine and bellhousing from a CVH Sierra will fit straight on, Sierra Pinto one will fit but needs hacked about around the sump joint area.
