Been searching for some info on the web about adapting a 2zzge to a rwd trans. I search for "engine swaps", "2zzge installs"etc..
Does anyone out there know of anyone whose done this?
Just wondering. Fletch.
There is a guy with one of these in a caterham. Looked at this my self as I am currentley running 1600 4age. I think he bought his car as an
unfinished project from caterham when they were deciding on the new engine, eventually going for the duratec. He said that he got his bell housing
from caterham South Africa. I'm not sure if they still do them as this is as far as I have got. I think there is a mobile number for the guy you
need to speak to with the caterham south africa details on caterhams web site.
Keep us posted.
Ben.
I'm sure Raw engineering do bell houses to suit the toyota gear!?
Sadly not for the 2zzge. They have looked at it but costs etc stopped it for the time being at least.
Ben.
Hey, Thanks for the replies..I cant believe more people are'nt using these engines.!??! They'er feather light,190 honest HP, small, high
revving and every where...Is there something I'm missing about them..?..?
?????Fletch.
P.S. I'm a CNC machinist,If someone could score a drawing of the adapter or bellhousing in question, maybe I could do them.....

Only downside I've seen is the height and that depends on the car it is going in.
Ben.
If you are able to manufacture you own bell housing, the design shoulb be pretty easy.
We fitten a type 9 box to an alfa V6.
'O'welly, (the guy that made ours) made a jig that had the type 9 dimension on one end and the alfa dimension on the other.
It was a sliding jig so that the length of the bellhousing could be altered.
After the length was decided(depending of the length of input shaft) segment plates were cut to suit and welded together.
The finished article is very good. Altho' made from steel he has made a few enquireis about getting it cast in ally.
Altho the engine you are after is cheap and easily available, it is also tall i believe.
We looked at it and other from toyota but decided against it.
Would you be using the supra box ?
If you decide to do it, good luck it would thing to do as different = good in my eyes.
If you don't go for it, you could always use a nice 200bhp v6 alfa.
£150 for the full car.( and a pre designed bellhousing to convert to RWD)

Whats the 2zzge engine out of??
Have you thought about the Altezza 6 speed box? Don't know if it will match up, but could be a good starting point.

2zz also in Celica and South African built Corolla GT. Is it related to the 1zz (Corolla 1.8)?
Ask on locost_oz at yahoogroups - they have definitely discussed the 2zz and guys have already fitted 1zz's.
I did consider the 2ZZ for my Striker as I had a supercharged 2ZZ-GE (240BHP) in my Celica Sports-M. However I went for an import 4AGE
"blacktop" 20V (155BHP)instead as it it much more compact and 20+ kg lighter.
There are a couple of PDFs on the net covering tech aspects of both the 1ZZ and 2ZZ. Both share the same GBX and engine mounting points but internally
they are very different.
RAW did loan a seized 2ZZ engine from Fensport to do the conversion but they have concentrated on the 4AGE 20V.
So maybe speak to RAW/Fensport for a loan/hire of the 2ZZ block for fabricaton.
Fensport did have both a front cut and a complete new 2ZZ-GE last I spoke to them.
2ZZ-GE approx £1500-1800
2ZZ-GE front cut £2500 (eng+GBX)
4AGE 20V £650-750
Just spotted this post while searching for something else.
I own the Caterham SV with the Toyota 2ZZ-GE engine installation. Ben was right, it was the original Caterham prototype car and unfinished when I
acquired it. The bell housing was in place though and did indeed come from South Africa.
The engine is mated to a Caterham 6-speed gearbox and works very well indeed. I have had it working and on the road since July 2005 and so far so
good.
Excellent article on matingdifferent engine/gearbox combinations in PPC Dont know if it is available where you are , someone may be able to scan article for you ?
