Hello,

With the cooling system I am planning on using for my blade powered car my radiator is too low to fill from, therefore i am planning to plumb in a header tank, the header tank I just purchased from ebay has a pressure cap, and so does the rad?!

Is this bad? will it be a big deal if the pressure cap on the rad blows? Is it even worth welding up where the pressure cap went on the rad?

Any thoughts will be handy,

If you have a filling hole that you don't want to use with a pressure cap, buy a blanking cap - they're easy to get hold of in motor factors (or Burton power if all else fails). Looks like a pressure cap, but doesn't have the springs, etc. Not expensive.

But i'm using a rad which I think is R1, and I don't think rad caps are universal or are they? Wouldn't I have to source a special Yamaha R1 Blanking cap?

May help to remove radiator and remove filler neck then solder on a blanking plate . Use header tank for filling

My system on my Blade is the same and I'll be plumbing it with two pressure caps, just like it was when it was in Chris Gamlins car with no probs.

Only worry about it if something happens!

All valid ideas, I think i'll run a blanking cap on my "older" R1 rad.

That is if anyone knows if I can get a rad blanking cap for an R1 rad??

To presure caps the potential for problems -- because as the coolingsystem and the coolant contracts air is drawn back in through the vacuum relief valve in the caps, not a problem if the system self bleeds easily but on some system layouts it has the potential to cause air locks.
