The fan on my car seems to cut in at about 100 degrees indicated (i.e. on the gauge). This is with a pressuriesed header tank, btw. From what I can understand from the Haynes manual, this is the same as the original Rover 25 figure, but I am just a bit worried about overheating.

a) should I change the fan stat for a lower temperature one (if so, how much lower?)

b) are there any consequences of it potentially cutting in too early?

85 - 90 - 95 is around the range you want i guess.

Guess 90 ish would be fine

85-95 sounds more like the operating temperature for thermostat, fan switches usually cut in several degrees above this. Mine switches on at about 100 degrees also, this is well below the boiling point on a pressurised system of course...I *think* it's around 130 degrees on a 15psi system, but I'm willing to be corrected on that....

hmmm... I think I might leave the one I've got and see what it's like in practice.
