Finding type N3 gearbox
givemethebighammer - 5/9/05 at 09:15 PM

I've been running the car with the standard sierra gearbox since the start of this year and have found the short first gear a bit useless.

I bit of research suggests that if I swap the gearbox for one from a 2.8i sierra or capri the ratios will be better suited to the seven. The attached document (in German with translations) shows I should be looking for a "N3" gearbox. Question is where do I find this identification on the geabox ? VIN plate ? I think I am looking for an XR4i or a 2.8 capri box. Just want to make sure I get the right one. I am aware I will have to change the input shaft to the shorter one to get the box to fit straight back on my car with the least problems. I suppose the other question is does anyone have one in good condition they want to sell ?

thanks

just to add I run a sierra LSD 3.62 ? (from an XR4x4) and 185/60/14 tyres
