im going to build an mk indy ive decided now after a lot of looking around.
i wont be building it till just after xmas time probably.
i want to put a 1300 in it (well obviously i want to put bigger then a 1300 in it but i wouldnt be able to insure it if i did)
i dont know what 1300 or what gearbox and how much they will cost.
any ideas anyone ?
thanks
andrew
1300 with 4 speed gearbox from Mk II escort is a good cheap starting position and available pretty much for peanuts
However if you are intending to put a bigger engine in later, I'd upgrade to a Sierra 5 speed Type 9 from day 1.
If its any use to you, I've got a 1300 xflow sat in my shed taking up valuable space andy, its yours if you want it. It needs a bit of work on it
(needs a new sump - just chewed it up on the 1700 xflow!) and an exhaust manifold but otherwise its in good nick, Plenty of the buggers about at the
mo to get bits off.
As for the gear box, I would go for a type 9 if you can get it to fit (not sure on the mods) I've got the 4 speed from the escort in mine at the
mo but am toying with the idea of the 5 speed type 9 instead. Not sure though.....
Hows the landy going mate? Binned the idea of the landy lights on the back, going for a similar style (but not the same!!!) as hellfires. Will let you
know when the missus decides!!
Catch you later mate,
Chris
will a mk2 escort 1300 fit a sierra gearbox ?
Yes; bolts straight up but you need to make sure you have changed the clutch and maybe one or two other minor things (do a search, it's been covered before).
Are you sure about the insurance? I thought that kit car insurance was for nowt. Even if you're a "yungun"
Check with Blackford Bloor first.
If you want a small CC engine whynot fit a bike motor

Hayabusa if it has to be 1300 and you get a free gearbox too
ive been told insurance wont be nowt some ppl are under the impression it will be nowt and others are telling me it will be a fair bit lol ...
I think it depends on age. For us oldies it cost the same if we have a 100bhp pinto 2 litre or 500bhp cossy 2 litre, as long as it's 2 litre they
don't care....which is nice
