Peugeot 406 Engine Identification
Ben_Copeland - 6/11/05 at 04:09 PM

Further on from a post i made a while ago about a knackered peugeot 406 HDi engine, i now need to replace the engine, but i need to find out which engine is in it... the 90 bhp or the 110 bhp version.

Does anyone know a sure fire way of telling ?

Also, when i find out and swap the engines, would i need to swap ECU's, etc? ??

Thanks in advance!

Well i know theres a 110bhp 2.0L HDI engine and I know theres a 90 bhp 2.0L HDI engine.

The 2.2L might well be 110bhp, and i definately know its not a 2.2L

Plus my dad's got a 2.0L HDI 110bhp, but it's not here to look at and compare.

Was a reply to a reply, but it's gone!

2.0L HD1=

dw10ated (RHZ)=110 HP
dw10td (RHY) = 90HP

2.2D HDI=

dw12ated (4HZ)=133HP

(engine code)

hope this helps

Thanks ch1#1 i'll see if i can find an engine code on it.

Any ideas on the ECU ??? can it control another engine, or would it be security locked to a certain engine.

Or would it just have security for ignition, etc. meaning i can keep the original ecu

ch1ll1 - 6/11/05 at 04:48 PM

not too sure on the ecu
the last time i played with one it also controlled the shut off valve on the back of the diesel pump,

also some use this for the alarm system, so you may have to swap pumps if your going that way!
the engine code can be found
if you look to the left of the oil filler below the diesel injectors on the engine not the head i think !
not 100% on that but think so

Tried to find it, but its too dark/cold/wet to see where it is... plus i cant be arsed atm

CHeers for the help, i'll see if i can get someone to sell me an engine with ECU, just in case

big_wasa - 6/11/05 at 05:30 PM

errr will try again i new i should of checked before posting doh....

3 models as said the DW10td ie 90 bhp is non-intercooled and the DW10ated 110 bhp is intercooled..

Again I think

One thing I do know is the engines in these are not cheap due to the demand from taxi drivers

Ben_Copeland - 6/11/05 at 05:44 PM

Theres a few on ebay for £250, couple for £450. I'm hoping the owner of the car can actually find the V5 for it... hoping it'll say on that, so i dont have to go searching !

But they cant find it

ch1ll1 - 6/11/05 at 06:10 PM

when you open the bonnet is there an intercooler looking at you or not?

Ben_Copeland - 6/11/05 at 06:35 PM

There isn't one on top of the engine ???

But i thought it was only the older style 405's that had that ?

My dad's 406 HDi 110 doesn't have an intercooler on top of the engine ?????

Or am i missing something ?

big_wasa - 6/11/05 at 06:41 PM

erm it should be on the front of the car ,to the left of the rad.....

Just had a look on ebay and I couldnt find one for less than £450 and thats with out ancileries ?

Needs Injectors, Which I've Got

Waiting on Mileage Confirmation

ch1ll1 - 6/11/05 at 08:50 PM

that should do the trick!

big_wasa - 6/11/05 at 09:08 PM

Worth noting that both sellers have Zero feedback......hmmmmm with other traders doing them at £450....hmmmm

I did see the one at 25 quid but whats the reserve ?

Didnt look at the 306 just the 406 tho..

minordelay - 6/11/05 at 11:09 PM

Hi there

ECU for a 90 bhp will not work with a 110 bhp motor turbo, on the 110 bhp motor turbo is electronically regulated. Suppose you could use the type to suit and swap as necessary.

I have 10 + years of pug experience if you are stuck.

Ben_Copeland - 7/11/05 at 08:21 PM

Well they found the V5 and it's a 90 bhp engine. So guess thats the engine i'll have to get for it. Save messing about.

I'm a bit wary of the cheaper ones. DIdn't notice the zero ratings tho !!!

Cheers, minordelay i'll keep that in mind. As long as i can use the 90 bhp ECU with any 90bhp engine thats all that matters,

Hi,

Peugeot use the engine code as part of the VIN digits 5,6 &7 IIRC.

Easier than searching for it on the engine block.

Anyone know if the citreon version fits straight in ?

ned - 11/11/05 at 03:55 PM

not directly related but beware they may be different if they do/don't have aircon, i had an earlier mech inj diesel 306 and had to replace the sump once, got one from a zantia but the aircon mounts and general shape were different.

Ned.
