Picture the scene. I'm doing all the little mop up jobs getting ready for SVA. Just got my gauges all working nicely, just set up the headlights
in readiness for a mock MOT at the local garage this week, the car is happily burbling away in the drive and I've got a satisfied grin on me
chops!
I turn off the enigine in order to go in and relay my joy and contentment to Mrs Beedle and request a celebratory cuppa! Aaahh bliss!
Went to start the car to put it away CLANG! Bloody starter ring fell off! Just great! I've managed to separate the gearbox and engine enough to
remove the sheet metal plate so I can get to the ring gear. It's a shrink fit I guess, judging by how impossible it is to bash it back on!
So after everything It looks like I've got to have the sodding engine and gearbox all out. I haven't got a hoist and I've done my back
in so I've no hope of getting it SVA'd before Christmas now. I so brassed off!
I know that in the great scheme of things it's not that important but it's still disheartening.
If I ever get the ring gear back on I think I'll weld the bugger in place!
First though I've got to wait until I can move again properly!
Anyone got an engine hoist, a healthy back and a few hours to spare?
Cheers
Jon

Sorry to hear that Jon , Ive tack welded ring gears on in the past on an old Avenger . Bit of a bodge but it wasn't worth taking the gearbox out . Did it through the starter hole after knocking it back into place but it was a loose fit on the flywheel .
Thanks for the replies folks. Might take you up on your offer Dan. I'll need to borrow a hoist first. Hopefully Mr Schrodinger can sort me out
with one. Cheers
Jon.
hi i live in bury. have got a folding crane you can borrow & a spare 1300 x flow & pinto if you can use the flywheel.e mail me at simon.morris05@tiscali.co.uk if its any help
I fitted a ring gear to an rs 2000 many years ago by sticking in in the oven at full power for about 1/2 an hour. It fitted over the flywheel ok and
worked a treat.
Here endeth todays cooking lesson.

Was chatting to my dad about this...
You might want to check the fit of the ring gear on the flywheel, as they should definately not pop off! They are a mightily tight fit!
David
I expect that it's broken somewhere...
Last time I asked, a new ring gear was around 30-ish UKP from the usual suspects.

If the old one's popped off that's the hardest part of the job done
. We refitted a mini one by warming it with a plumbing blowlamp,
don't blue it though. If it's not a pre-engaged starter make sure you have it the right way round.
