upgrade from xflow to zetec
stretch - 9/11/05 at 09:07 AM

will the zetec bolt onto the same gearbox as the kent?

next question will the exhaust still exit on the same side?

(soory bit clueless on the zetec motors)

thanks

the exhaust exits from the drivers side
so that will need changing!
the boxes are different (mating faces= bolt pattern)
from what i remember so will not fit

hope im not too wrong !!

cheers paul

The Zetec engine has the exhaust exit on the passenger side, which I thought was the same as the crossflow.

With regards the the type 9 I again thought that the bolt patterns were the same (although a new crud plate would need to be made).

I am sure there is someone that has done this who can confirm for sure.

Zetec exhaust left hand side, you could even use your crossflow manifold if you fitted a Zetec head flange plate, not ideal but Locost!!

Zetec bolts straight onto type 9 , with applicable clutch /release bearing

1.8 CVH starter motor can be used

Short sump needed , can be bought from Scholar , Raceline,Dunnell etc, or modify your own if you can ally weld.

Zetec taller than crossflow so may have to change nosecone or make a bulge.....

Yes and Yes. Completed exactly this conversion about 8 months ago

If you only have a 4 speed gearbox, I would recommend upgrading to a 5 speed (or better) Type 9 at the same time.

Couldn't have been more wrong really

i have a 4speed and would like to keep it now to save on costs.

the current starter motor bolts onto the bellbousing? - but that not still be able to work - IF the gearring on the flywheels is the same size etc?

stevebubs - 9/11/05 at 10:39 AM

You need a starter from something like a 1.8 CVH Sierra. Will bolt straight up.

It may - it will fit the hole but it depends on the throw. I waited until I had mine apart and then checked to see if it would engage.

For me sadly not - so yes 1.8cvh version purchased (I think if you go injection you need a more hevy duty version).

Mine was from Pinto to Zetec but I have some of the Zetec before it was installed if they would help.

If so, let me have your e-mail address.

Mark.

Injection or Carbs, the starter motor will be the same as the compression won't change unless you start doing serious engine work.

There is a flywheel (available from Burtons I think) which has a ring gear that will enable the use of a Crossflow starter. Cheaper and easier just to get a Sierra starter, though.

A few Pics are in my Archive (Click link on left)
