Propshaft too short?
cryoman1965 - 9/11/05 at 11:22 PM

Had a trial fit of my type 9 gearbox into my Indy. I connected the p/shaft into g/box and pushed back into car allowing 10-15 mm approx clearance between the bellhousing and the footwells. My question is the p/shaft that goes into the gearbox is 105 mm long, when fitted there is still 25-28 mm left exposed. Is this ok or should i have a plate made to fit at the other end of the p/shaft to reduce the amount exposed.

Cheers

Sounds about spot on to me. As the rear axle moves up and down, the prop moves in and out of the gearbox, if it goes in too far you will break something. Sorry, just read you are building a MK, so you axle will not move, but still fine

think mine has even more than that. There will be plenty of shaft actively engaged with the box.

I could add my agreement to that but it is pointless - so I'll leave it at that

1" behind the nose is std spec for props assuming it is a std type 9 nosepiece.
