I had an old ford escort (but a MK 3) which I was going to use as a donor car, only trouble is that it is front wheel drive.
Can somebody help me by giving a list of compatible donor cars/ engines which will work with the project and i can keep my eyes out for. Obviously I
can still use some things from the donor escort, i just need an engine. Any Ideas? A simple list of compatable things would be nice!
Many Thanks
Chris
depends on what you are building,if its a 7 type then a seirra is the most common doner, mounting a CVH engine isnt easy,a lot of peeps go bike power
these days as well
I will be doing the standard thing, from the book, nothing special, is a sierra the thing to look for? From reading other posts is the 2.0 ltr Pinto engine what im looking for?
Go to my site, and from the donors section and the FAQ you should get all the info you need.
I am just too lazy to type it all out here
David
PS welcome to the site
Okay, the sierra looks like the best bet. Are there serious modifications needed or are they all pretty obvoius? How much do things need adjusting
Are you scratch building or buying a kit ?
Either way I wouldnt bother with a donor ,just pick up the bits as you need them.
Plenty of unfinished projects get broken and its still possible to do a full book build if your prepared to travell.
As said lots of engines available today you may find a donor not worth the time or hassle.
Ive noticed the price of old sierras going up in price.
Just my 2p worth
Surely buying separate parts is going to be expensive?
Also do hub assemblies have to come from a cortina, or are the other alertnatives?
prob is tina parts are very rare these days, seirra ones can be used but geometry is different and bones will need to different, best thong is to get to
see/have a ride in one,get yourself along to a meet somewhere and have a chat
I'm building a GTS. Dimensions are similar to the "book" but changed to allow the use of Sierra parts rather than Escort bits.
You don't even have to buy the chassis as they will sell you a set of plans.
Excuse my ignorance but what is a GTS. I was planning to build it ' by the book'. Can you get other kit versions, or pre made
chassis's??? and these plans are they for the Locost or for a different kit car?
Chris
have a look through the manafacturers section on the site and you will see some of the ready made chassis/bodywork options,if you want to make your
own chassis, its not difficult if you can weld, the book has quite a few mistakes, jim, mcsorley plans have all the faults sorted i bellive and his plans
are available on line
Where can I get his plans online, is there a website availiable?
click below for GTS tuning web site.
www.gtstuning.co.uk
Modified book plans to accept Sierra running gear will cost you a tenner.

Can I mix and match between using parts for the GTS and parts as from the book? so if i build the GTS Chassis from their plans do I have to use the de
dion axel or can I use an escorts?
Also can a sierra 4x4 be used as a donor car?
Chris
There are 3 different mscorley plans. Which ones are right? Is the GTS plans any good. Also ive heard about a Building CD you can get. Is it any good?
Basically a GTS chassis is very similar in dimensions to "the book" chassis, the main difference is that its been brought up to date to use
Sierra bits. The scuttle, bonnet and nose cone are a bit taller to allow room for a wider choice of engines but will fit on a "book
chassis".
If you want then you could use an Escort axle on a GTS but if you're using a Sierra as a donor then the de-dion is the better option anyway.
