Speed sensor on type 9
Spriggsy - 24/11/05 at 06:05 PM

Hello all.
I am using a type 9 gearbox from a 93 sierra, there is an electronic unit towards the rear of the box which I assume was a pick up for the sierra injection system.
Does anyone know if this unit can be used as a VDO electronic speedo pick up?
Thanks.

Are you sure that isn't the switch for the reverse light?

No Pat Its the pick up for the injection system, the speed sensor for the ecu on the original 1.8i sierra. It has 3 wires with a multiplug coming out of it, the reverse switch has 2 pins on it.

I have VDO speedo and use the hall effect speedo sensor from a mondeo speedo cable to drive it quite happily. Couldn't find the sensor off a type nine when I fitted it.

you can use it as a speed sensor, assuming you can calibrate your speedo to match the output. I have used one of these, it works, although I have still to calibrate it properly (not with a VDO gauge though)

hope this helps, basically the wiring is + and earth plus a sensor wire, that goes to the speedo. ( I can't remember which is which off the top of my head, I think it is brown - earth brown/yellow - live, and the other one is the signal wire to the speedo.... but don't quote me on that)

Cheers for the input lads.
Phoenix this sounds ideal, I'll give it a whirl. I think that calibrating the speedo will be no problem, thanks.
