K series identification
Hammerhead - 29/11/05 at 10:50 AM

Hi all,

I have a K series engine from a 97 Lotus elise. There is some confusion on the capacity, the previous owner thinks its a 1.6, I reckon its a 1.8 as I dont think that elises were ever fitted with the 1.6........................are there any identifiers on the engine that will tell me for sure the capacity??

Cheers.

The elise was only ever fitted with the 1.8 engine.

The block on all of the K series engines are the same, but they do have different numbers stamped on them.

There were also 2 or 3 different heads and crankshafts fitted to the K series range....

Makes it all a little complicated. However if it was an elise engine then it will be a 1.8

Thanks for that David - the previous owner had the engine removed before delivery from the factory and had the VHPD engine fitted instead.

At least now I can start getting the correct ecu's etc.

Cheers.

If you check the engine number, the first 2 digits indicate capacity. My 1.4 starts 14KMM...
