I have bought some proper Ford blue exhaust manifold nuts and some very nice nylocks for the inlet manifold that look like copper (probably not though). As the Ford nuts are the real deal will i need washers or will locktight do? If washers, which are best.

Theyd be ok with locktite i would imagine.. Spring washers work too.

If theyr flange nuts u wont need anything.

I'm doing the same this week. I bought some copper coated exhaust manifold nuts which have a crimp in them to make them act like nylocs. I'm using plain stainless + spring washers.
I'm not sure if your nylocs will stand the heat of a manifold (even an inlet) so you are probably better off with the same combination of washers with a full nut.

Very little point using locktight on exhaust manifold nuts, the heat will soften it. If they are the genuine artical they self lock anyway, if not use shakeproof washers.

I will probably use some of my mates double shake proof washers from Worth. They are amazing and impossible (well almost) to undo once on.

I would not panic too much over locking the nuts!

Nylocs will hold any inlet manifold on an engine as long as the exhaust is the opposite side of the head.

Self locking nuts will hold the exhaust manifold.

For the inlet I sometimes don't even use nylocs so I can run the nuts off by hend when it has to come off, and they never come loose and that is at high rpm during racing!

ps spring washers on the exhaust will probably get tempered the first time you really work the engine anyway, 500 deg c is not uncommon on the exhaust!
