toyota 4age - change of direction perhaps...

long term engine change was vauxhall c20XE but I now read some interesting stuff about toyota 4age engine; 5 valves per cylinder, 165 bhp in 1600 form, hmmmmm and it probably physically smaller and lighter too...

hmmmm, got me thinking.

are there many of these about in UK? 4th generaion, 20 valve would do me nicely! and sites doing conversion parts i.e. gearbox adapters.

I don't even know whether the 20v AGE was ever fitted in a UK spec car, I've seen a couple of MR2 conversions though.

RAW engineering are the experts when it comes to the AGE, they sell imported engines including the 20v and supercharged versions

Fensport are also worth trying, they supply the 20V engines. www.fensport.co.uk

RAW engineering - seen pics of those engine in the mage=s, been to their website, hmmm not quite locost .... so seems like back to original plan.

--------------oOo------------------

so I should be looking at MR2? any others cars (make/model'year)? pre-cat ofcourse!

There is scrapyard near me that do jap cars, maybe worth a trek over there...

One of my Sylva freinds has one of those in his Stylus. He's been very pleased with it by all accounts. Sources via RAW IIRC.

Sweet engine, a fair bit lighter than the 20XE, though the XE will develop considerably more torque simply because of the extra capacity.

Looked at this as an option myself but it worked out a little too expensive.

20v silver top (4th gen) was never installed in a uk car.

JAS engines in Stowmarket, Suffolk always have a few in stock, imported from Japan.

RAW have been known to get a few lumps from JAS when they have struggled with other suppliers!

Bellhousings and bits can be had from RAW and fensport amongst others.

It is not a cheap option, but hopefully should be fairly nippy!

A really sweet little engine. Revs like the clappers - really difficult to kill - lasts forever if you keep genuine filters, premium fuel and synthetic oil up to it.

I've got the 16 valve 100kW version - most of the locals run the 20valve, though the 160hp is optimistic (more like 145) they still walk away from mine.

The 16 valve is easier to upgrade to 175 - 195hp - not much is around for the 20 valve.

A good site is
http://www.billzilla.org/carindex.htm (scroll down)
though there's also plenty at
http://www.club4ag.com/ ,
http://www.toymods.org.au/ ,
http://www.twincam.org/
though the signal to noise ratio can be a bit sad on those.
