Please help.....
I thought i would fit my inlet manni today so i put it on and started tightening up the nuts. After a little while the vacuum thingy broke because it
was too tight up against the rocker cover.
The engine was rebuilt from Mac1 and i guess they just shove in any old carb they have lying arround
. It is obviously the wrong carb or inlet
mannifold. (you would have thought all ford parts like that would be interchangeable!!)
Has anyone got on of these vacuum thingies or do i need something else?

I did a spot of panel beating on my rocker cover (beat it with the ball end of a hammer) to make mine fit, but I had to as I had turned the carb round on the manifold so it was like yours. I removed the auto choke and swapped the linkage to the other side. Did you turn the carb round?
I think it needs rotating 90 deg to the right from what I remember
That carb doesnt look right andy,it looks like a 1600 one from a very early 1600 pinto.
What are the markings on the base of the carb ?
It looks just like my '87 2.0 ltr one. I'll have a look in the shed and see if there are any bits lying about.
Bob
The carb has a tab which reads 87HF then 1059 or 1069
The manifold has 84MF 9425PA
Guys
Cheers for info. I think i'll either turn it or smack the rocker cover with me hammer. Apparently the early pinto rocker covers are larger than
later ones and theres plentu of room inside.

Throw that fecking thing away and get a set of bike carbs for fuel and get a megasquirt with an edis 4 unit/coilpack, and watch the boat anchor fly
It's missing off the one I found. I took the choke and choke flap out of mine as I don't use them. I can't see what it does anyway, it looks like it damps the throttle action a bit on the second choke. I did away with the stepper motor as well because I changed to the earlier simpler ignition.

If you are going to use a piper cam as in your previous thread, that carb will strangle it. Why not try a 38 DGAS carb? it should fit your existing
manifold and should be ok up to about 150 BHP.

You can fit a manual choke conversion easily enough.

I'm only going to use the cams with the R1 carbs next winter....unless i upgrade to 4age
I think I would have the 38 DGAS anyway
Cheers

I'll see how i get on with this one 1st. If it's pants then i'll look at altenatives.
It's 180 degrees out. Electric choke goes toward the front of the engine. Vacuum device should be outboard and opens the secondary choke, its not
mechanicaly linked to the throttle lever.
Looks like a webber DFTH.

oooh interesting! that would explain it then!
I have got that carb on my 2 litre pinto. Not sure if it is the right one for the engine though coz donor car came with a few carbs. Mine fits the
same way round too. I have a spare one of these carbs and an inlet manifold yours for FREE if you want them or any bits off of them. You're not
too far away either. I think the broken bit opens the second throttle valve dependant on venturi vacuum. ie sucks it open on full throttle. Could be
wrong though. It has been known once or twice.
