I want to use the engine from my 1980 donor 1300L escort to get it through the SVA, I want to make sure it will run before i rip it out of the car, its done 38k but has not run for a long time & will not now start, ive squirted petrol down the carb & still no start, on checking the electrics I find the the coil only gives a very weak spark, its made by bosch but has no other idents,is the escort coil 12 volts or is it a 6v with a ballast resistor hidden somewhere.

the coil is resisted but it sounds like points cruddy ,clean them first and the plugs may be shagged,a drop of oil down the bores helps as well
