Evening all

Going to fit engine and box (pinto) into book chassis at the weekend, Is there an average height from ground to sump, i have standard sump on engine at the moment i know that ill have to modify it

When I fitted the crossflow, I mounted the chassis on 1" RHS, and rested the sump on the ground. Gives me around 3 inches ground clearance.
The Pinto is a little taller, so I'd chop the sump by 1" and do the above.

General opinion is that you should aim for 4" clearance, to avoid clouting speed bumps...

If you are going to cut your sump later, set the bottom of the gearbox bellhousing 1" below the chassis (match the sump to this later). With a book chassis, this puts the top of the block almost exactly level with the top of the top rails.
