Does anyone know what size bolts are used to fix the bellhousing to the block on a Range Rover EFI Auto 86 onwards?
I have used M10's but they appear very slightly too big? Are imperial bolts needed? Or a bigger hammer? :-)
Crikey, can't remember off the top of my head. 5/16UNC seems to ring a bell though. It's an imperial engine, so won't be M10.
I'll go have a look
Land Rover parts catalogues states 5/16" UNC x 6 and two locating dowels, and there should be at least one stud (usually at the top of the engine) that has a nut on it.
Cheers mate, you're a star... I'll order some now..
Just pop into your local Land Rover dealer, they're an off the shelf item and cost pence.
Failing that, go to John Craddocks and get them online.
Just from memory I'd say 5/16 sounds a tad small & 3/8 or 7/16 is more likely. It's been a while since I unbolted a bellhousing on one
of these so I could easily be mistaken. 5/16 would use a 1/2AF spanner & it was DEFINATELY bigger than that....

PS 5/16 is V close to 8mm & you say a 10mm nearly went in. . . . .
PPS there's no stud and there are 2 bolt lengths - longer ones round the starter motor & possibly at the bottom. Certainly imperial UNC

If it came out of a Range Rover, it'll have studs at the top, if it came out of an SD1, it won't - his engine came out of a Range Rover. Thi
is because the engine is hard against the bulkhead and you have to go in through the transmission tunnel.
Can only go by the parts catalogue. If you buy the bolts from Land Rover you're going to get 5/16"...
