BMW - diesel

Been wondering if a BMW turbo diesel could fit --- these are making really decent power. OK it is bulky and heavy see

Often wondered about this myself. I've had two of the 2.5 litre straight sixes in both 3 & 5 series cars. Soooo easy to chip and get close to 200bhp with great big dollops of torque.

As you say though - heavy as a very heavy thing

Our transport to Autosport last week was a 2005 320D - the one with 163 horses (ish). Far better than any 4 cylinder diesel I've ever experienced.

Did some dyno testing on this engine last year.
Loads of grunt.

Even the four 4 can make almost 160ps with just the airflow sensor spoofed.

Just a thouht on these high output diesels,
Some have a torque limiting mode in the engine management that is linked to vehicle speed through the wheel speed sensors via the abs module to the ecu, So until the car is doing X mph you get reduced torque. Stops you tearing the clutch and driveshafts out.Consider this when choosing.
Steve.

Would the power delivery of a diesel really suit the 7's character though?

I had a look at the performance figures for the Rover 1.8 petrol (118ps) and the diesels 2.0 Cdi 116ps and the 2 litre CDt-i 129ps versions

The 116ps diesel is about 0.2 seconds slower 0-60 the 131ps about 0.2 faster than the petrols 10.8 time. The petrol has a 1 mph higher top speed at 121mph

While the standard Rover 1.8 K16 isn't the firebrand the k16 1.4 version is the diesels more than hold thier own.

Didn't Vauxhall stick a diesel in the VX and get a 'fastest road diesel car' or something similar?
