ok, ive got a clutch plate to mate the type nine to the alfa V6.
The alfa plate was 228mm, the gearbox shaft 23 spline X 1"
The plate i have is from a ford galaxy, which in the catalogue i had was listed 228mm 23 spline 1". I've been told since, that the Galaxy
actually has a 26mm shaft, not a 25.4mm. It appears to fit very well.
My question then is, is it 25.4mm or 26mm.
the splines on the type nine are flat on the end, not pointed, could this account for the difference in 0.6mm ?
Every catalogue i look at tells me something different.
Although 0.6mm doesn't sound like a lot it is around 24 thou and I would seriously doubt that a clutch plate spline would have that much
clearance IMHO of course.
But I don't know the definitive answer to your question about the shaft dia.
But someone here prolly will

I suspect you have no clutch plate at all you big tall liar-pants.
Oh, well, erm, you may have caught me out slightly there.
The forementioned clutch plate is not exactly in my possesion.
It was given to a certain Mr Owelly to try and sort the problem out by ringing the manufacturer, but you can't get the staff.

Dilemma
I also have a clutch plate to fit a type 9 to an Alfa V6,
Its a sierra 215mm, but it is 25.4X23 spline. Only cost £10 (e-bay)
I tried the Modeo 220mm 25.4x23 but the flywheel side touched the bolts and would couse problems
The QH cat lists the Gallaxy as part No C196QAF and 228mm 26x23. its lists a similar size for Mk2 and MK3 Mondeo so I suspect it may acyually be
26mm, but cant say for sure.
Landrover list the correct plate but i cant seem to find it, every one that is listed for the vehicle is too big i.e 240mm
I know this is of little help but a least I can sympathise.

landrover do not do a 228mm clutch plate at all, although listed that way in mant catalogues. Owelly got in touch with a dealer to find out which
ones are which and was told they are all 240mm.
Scimitar list one almost there tho, still looking in to it.
What the internal diameter of the friction material on the plate you have ?
The friction area internel diameter is about 153mm (164plate 155mm)
The friction material is about 33mm wide (36mm)
So the friction material contact is a little less but not critical ,I hope.
I have tried the gearbox and clutch together and attached it to the engine and it clears and operates normaly but i have not had it fitted with the
engine running,so its still in the "hope its ok stage"
With the weight of the finished car it should cope but if not i will have to try and find an alternative. I did think of altering the pressure plate
and fitting a Granada 240mm but it would require a bit of work. I should have the engine installed in the car in the next 6 weeks so fingers
crossed.
I have a friction plate from a Mondeo (225mm) that would work f I turned the head of the crankshaft bolts and removed about 1.5mm from the head. That
would give enough clearence and more friction surface on the flywheel.
Just a thought.
Previous post should read Mondeo 220mm
The Scimitar was another web site bogey! The one listed as 229mm is actually 241mm. As are the Landy ones (9.5"
.
I do have a part number for one from National Clutches (the only company I can find who sell just the friction plate) that is suposed to be 229mm
outside with a 1"x23 splines hole with a hub/torque spring carrier diamater of 135mm. I will contact the tech dept again tomorrow to confirm the
dimentions and get one ordered.
Dimension confirmed.
Part ordered.
Pick-up soon i hope.
If spending your money clutches helps me fing the correct one, then good on you
if it fits, i'll purchase said item for my self
