Hello again,
i am putting a zetec in my saab 96, i had orginally thought the zetec would be lighter than the v4, what with having aluminium heads etc. but it is
actually about 50lbs heavier! the engine in the saab is mounted quite far forward so i am wondering if this increase in weight will affect the
handling? should i get uprated springs for the car? is 50lb a big difference or not such a big difference?
many thanks
Surely the Saab engine is a better bet!!
Howcome youre doing it??
Mind you, you could as kus the same question: spending all our time in the garage hacking away at little bits of metal!

well the saab engine is under powered, not good on fuel, expensive to tune. i was going to get a new manifold and twin choke carb which would add a few bhp etc. there was one on ebay. they are pretty rare so it ended up going for 155 pounds! the xr3i engine i have only cost 80. so in the long one this will be the cheaper and easier way as it is doubling the power in one go. getting this sort of power fro the v4 costs about 2000!
When u say XR3I engine, I take it you realise that the XR3I was never produced with a Zetec!
Its a CVH. a bad, bad engine!
Ed.
sorry i meant the escort XR3! its from a k reg escort. it should be a zetec, it is a DOHC engine!

well its one of those! the engine came from an escort XR3 k reg. well i guess noone is sure what the extra weight will do to the handling, but will uprate it anyway, there is a fairly simple way of doing it!
If you can stick a photo on here it'll stop the children bickering, and answer the question in one fell swoop.
If it look roughly the same as this (i.e. if the cam covers look the same) then it's a Zetec.
