is it possible?

to run a pinto on bike carbs using the dizzy? iv heard of it being done but am a little dubious

UncleFista - 19/2/06 at 08:56 PM

Dunno why not, is the dizzy gonna get in the way of a set of carbs ?

omega0684 - 19/2/06 at 08:58 PM

what is a dizzy?

rayward - 19/2/06 at 09:01 PM

shouldn't be a problem, obviousely you'll need a dizzy cap with right angled connections, also some bike carbs are designed to be fitted at an angle(the air filter fits in a recess inthe fuel tank), using these should give you a bit of extra clearance.

dizzy = distributor

big_wasa - 19/2/06 at 09:06 PM

I think you mean the problems due to lack of a constant vacume to run the advance/retard mech.

Run a line to each runner feed them all in to a small chamber to act as a damper then feed the dizzy from that.

wouldnt vacumless distributor sort that problem? i was thinking of the fuelling would i need some sort of ecu to control it?

That's a cracking idea Wasa.

I'm running twin Delortos and I also have a vacuum gauge. The gauge was into no4
and the advance pipe into no1, but the gauge flickered so I joined 1 to4 and joined
into that. It still flickers a bit.

Your idea of joining all four with a damper chamber would be better for the gauge
reading and a more stable feed for the vacuum advance. I'll try that.

Cheers.

I nicked the idea from Paulf he used a small spent co2 bulb.

Why do you need vacuum with dellortos?

My understanding is it is there to improve ecomomy/emission at low loads

Although I have vacuum line fitted to front carb and advance unit, I will see how my engine runs without vacuum advance. If I can find the vacuum take off on the other carb, I'll try the vacuum chamber idea to see if it is any better.

with a vac gauge you need a restricter followed by a volume --- for the volume try the fuel trap between the throttlerbody and the ECU from a 90s Rover. For the restricter just make an adjustable clamp for the rubber hose.

In my neck of the woods it is when your date stands you up. --- ;-)

Or put a .6mm mig nozzle in the line , I found one is a push fit into the 4mm vac tubing I am using . I used a cut down Co2 bulb as a fuel trap and soldered a top on it with an inlet and out let pipe made from brake pipe as i couldnt find a suitable fuel trap .It is a good idea to have a fuel trap in line anyway as i found my map sensor had got fuel in it after a few miles with out a trap fitted.

I have a few spare if anyone wants one ,as i have a co2 powered air pistol that uses the bulbs and they are disposable when empty.Willpost a picture later of how mine is fitted.
